Commander Budhy Tanddo

Budhy Tanddo is currently the Commander for Detention Operations for the Australian Border Force (ABF) with responsibility for the management of the Immigration Detention Network.

Budhy has wide-ranging involvement in international capacity building, undertaking long term deployments to Indonesia and the Solomon Islands providing a range of training, mentoring and project management activities.

Julian Talbot, FRMIA, F.ISRM CISSP SRMCP ​

Julian has 35 years international security risk management experience up to and Including Director level and C-Suite experience in the commercial, government, and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and internationally. His credentials include a Master of Risk Management (MRiskMgt), Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Australian Security Medal (ASM), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Diploma of Security Risk Management, Diploma of Project Management, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and Fellow of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA). He is also lead author of the Security Risk Management Body of Knowledge.

Julian is recognized internationally for his security expertise and is one of a handful of people accredited as a Registered Security Professional (RSecP) by the Australasian Council for Security Professionals in all five categories of Physical, Personnel, Information/Communications, Security Risk Management, and Security Enterprise Management.

The role of Innovation, Science and Technology in Strengthening Protective Security Resilience – the case of Security Culture

In this seminar, the role of Innovation, Science and Technology (IS&T) in helping security functions strengthen protective security posture will be explored. Working with security stakeholders within Defence and across Government, Defence Science and Technology Group has established an IS&T Project that brings together stakeholders and IS&T providers to delivery outputs designed to achieve this strengthening of posture. Members of the Project team will provide an overview of current efforts underway in the project. We will then focus on the approach we have taken for one of our work packages on security culture. We will describe how the approach being taken is helping to shape leadership and staff behaviours, informing the evolution of security strategy and policy, and surfacing the ways in which technology can be used to provide more dynamic assessments of security culture.

Hamish Hansford​

Deputy Secretary
Cyber and Infrastructure Security Department of Home Affairs

Hamish Hansford is the Deputy Secretary of the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Group and Acting National Cyber Security Co-ordinator with the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.
He currently leads national coordination and protection measures for Australian cyber security, protective security and critical infrastructure protection and manages the Australian regulatory authority for eleven critical infrastructure sectors including transport security and telecommunication security.
Hamish is responsible for AusCheck, a national background checking service and was previously the Inaugural Head of the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Centre.
He has extensive leadership experience in national security, border protection, technology, cyber security, indigenous affairs and criminal justice issues in the Australian Public Service
